Diagnostic medical sonographers, or simply known as sonographers, are healthcare professionals who use imaging equipment and soundwaves, known as ultrasound, to form images of regions of interest in the body according to the required type of examination. They are trained to acquire and analyse these sonographic images which are used to help doctors diagnose and treat medical conditions.
Sonographers acquire images in a variety of formats and provide technical impressions of findings to the reporting physician, who may be a radiologist, an obstetrician, cardiologist, or vascular surgeon.
